So after passing the fuck out on Friday night, we awoke at the beautiful hour of 8ish and struggled to get ourselves together for what could only be an epic day. We wandered into a little pastry shop situation for breakfast where the man, surprise!, didn’t speak any English. We discovered at that point that we speak ZERO german. Fortunately there was a very nice lady in there who helped us and taught us two words: danke- thank you- and Vassar-water.
After struggling with the ticket machine for a while (again a nice german lady helped us out) we were on our way! Once arriving at Oktoberfest, we took stock of the tents and eventually decided on our first tent- Hacker-Pschorr. Inside we found some Austrians to sit with and ordered our breakfast beer. Molly quickly made friends with the boy next to her who read the menu to us and made a joke that we had to verify was a joke before we could laugh. There were waiters inside carrying ENORMOUS trays of food around. It was crazy. At 11, we were kicked out of the tent because the table we were at was reserved. So we got some food and went to the outside part of the Schottenhamel tent where we found some American boys who were studying abroad in Spain to sit with. They were such assholes but were nice to us so it was cool. We drank there for a while and Molly and Sara went to the bathroom and were stuck outside the tent by a nazi lady who wouldn’t let them back in! disaster! After struggling with this lady for a while, I snuck them in through the side exit and we were drinking once more! We sang and drank and had a lovely time until eventually events became only blurry memories. We departed from the tent and wandered around eating some more- chocolate covered bananas, French fries, bratwurts mmm. After a while I wiped out and destroyed my knee and we decided we needed a nap and headed home. We passed out for a few hours, woke up drunk still and headed back to Oktoberfest. As we had no hope getting into another tent/ we didn’t need anything more to drink, we just wandered around and enjoyed the festival and ate a ton more food.
After a while of walking, we got back to the main aisle of the festival where lots of broken glass was. I accidentally kicked a broken beer stein and not noticing anything at first, moved on to the cotton candy stall that I saw. While waiting for my cotton candy, however, I looked down and there was blood EVERYWHERE. I was horrified, but waited for my cotton candy before seeking help. A nice man told us where the med tent was and we headed there. Inside the med tent there were soooo many injured people! One girl had lost half a finger and another’s hand was all wrapped up and she was crying. I offered them cotton candy, but they oddly didn’t want it. I was the least injured person there and so I drunkenly continued to eat my cotton candy as I waited to be helped. When I finally saw a doctor, she yelled at me to “never wear open toed shoes at the Oktoberfest” and attempted to give me stitches! I wasn’t having any of that and fortunately she decided I only needed a bandaid. Once I was wrapped up and discharged I found molly and sara again and we med some creepy people. Then we decided we needed to go home because Oktoberfest had had the best of us. I was extra injured and we were all starting to feel sick due to too much beer/food. Along the way to the train we helped out an English boy who was lost from his friends and wasn’t sure where his campsite/car/sleeping bag was. Mess.
The next day after lots of struggle to get out of bed, we went back to Oktoberfest, bought our souvenirs and said good bye to Oktoberfest. All in all it was a great weekend. My shoes got destroyed, all our clothes smell gross, we were extra hungover, and I was still bleeding. Needless to say, Oktoberfest won.
